Vehicle transport

Not an emergency? Move a car anywhere in the UK.

What vehicle transport on RecoverQ actually is

Recovery is for the car that has stopped. Transport is for the car that needs to be somewhere else. A vehicle you have just bought two hundred miles away, a classic going to a restorer, a car that failed its MOT and has to reach a specialist, a van being moved between depots, a non-runner sitting on a driveway that needs to get to a garage. None of those is an emergency, and none of them needs a truck scrambled to you within the hour.

Why it costs less than an emergency call-out

Recovery operators do not drive home empty by choice. A driver taking a car from Birmingham to Exeter has a return leg with nothing on the back, and that space is worth far more to them filled at a modest price than left empty. The transport tab shows those journeys: the trips operators are already making, with the space they have going spare. You are not paying for a truck to be sent out for you. You are paying for room on a trip that was happening anyway.

What you can move

Cars, vans, motorbikes and light commercials, running or not. Non-runners and vehicles with no keys need a driver with the right equipment, so say so at the start rather than when they arrive — winching a car with locked steering onto a flatbed is a different job from driving it on. If the vehicle has no MOT, no tax or no insurance it can still be moved, because it travels on the back of the truck rather than under its own power.

How the booking works

Search by where the vehicle is now and where it needs to get to. You see the operators covering that run, with their vehicle types and what they can take. You contact the driver yourself and agree the price, the dates and the collection details directly with them. RecoverQ does not take a booking fee, does not handle the payment and is not a party to the job — the same as on the recovery side.

What to have ready when you ring

  • Make, model and whether it runs, steers and brakes.
  • Both addresses, and whether a large truck can actually get to each of them.
  • Any dates that are fixed, and how much flexibility you have — flexibility is what makes it cheap.
  • Who will be there at each end to hand over and receive the keys.
Worth knowing. The more flexible your dates, the better the price. A driver who can fit your car into a run they were already doing next Thursday will quote very differently from one asked to make a special trip tomorrow.
How it works

Drivers list the trips they are already making. You book the space.

Open the transport tab in the app, search by where the vehicle is and where it needs to go, and see which approved drivers are travelling that way today or tomorrow — with how many vehicles they can carry. Call, text or WhatsApp them directly and agree the price. No account, no deposit, no fee to us.
